A compelling documentary detailing post-apartheid South Africa and the history of Sharon Katz and the Peace Train, When Voices Meet displays the power of music and musicians to help facilitate important social change.
Following Nelson Mandela’s release from prison, South African musician and music therapist Sharon Katz partnered with singer/educator Nonhlanhla Wanda to form a multiracial choir. The duo were determined to utilize music to break through apartheid’s barriers. Bringing together five hundred courageous multiethnic youth, the choir traveled across the country aboard the Peace Train. For seven years, the children sang their way into the hearts, minds and souls of a divided nation by promoting a peaceful transition to democracy in the midst of a civil war. When Voices Meet reunites the choir 20 years later to collect their stories and witness their reflections upon the Peace Train’s lasting impact on South Africa.
