Hot Sugar's Cold World

Enter the world of eccentric electronic artist Nick Koenig, aka Hot Sugar – a Grammy-nominated, musical maestro – as we follow him from New York City to Paris, hunting for entirely original beats using the universe's everyday sounds as his orchestra.

Deemed a modern-day Mozart, Hot Sugar records, chops and manipulates sounds from the everyday world. Frustrated by the clichéd and recycled beats of the modern musical landscape, he invents his own using the soundtrack of everyday life. From the reverberations of a decaying skull, to the sizzle of a hot frying pan, he’s armed with his recorder at every turn. But when his relationship with his girlfriend “Kitty,” a blogger/rapper of internet fame, comes to an end, Hot Sugar flees to Paris on a journey of self-discovery. As he plunges himself into his work, he reminds himself of the beauty of life through his one true love: sound. Featuring appearances by Neil deGrasse Tyson, Jim Jarmusch, and Martin Starr, among a host of other notable faces, director Adam Bhala Lough (the director of documentaries about musicians Lee "Scratch" Perry and L'il Wayne) takes us on an aural adventure through the work and lonliness of a truly innovative artist.
