The ambitious Arunulfo strives to rise up the ranks of his family’s arms cartel, but when he decides to kidnap an ATF agent and embark on a 600-mile trek across the desert with his captive, an unlikely friendship develops as they each face uncertain fates.
Buying large quantities of assault rifles and ammunition around the Tucson area doesn’t seem to be a problem for down-and-out punk Carson (Harrison Thomas). His anarchistic attitude is a stark contrast to the financial backer of his operation, the baby-faced, shy, and sexually confused Arunulfo (Kristyan Ferrer). Arnulfo has joined his uncle’s arms smuggling business and has begun to earn the respect of his family. When ATF agent Hank Harris (Tim Roth) is knocked out after attempting to arrest the boys, Arunulfo makes the split-decision to kidnap the unconscious Harris and take him back to his criminal uncle. Along the journey, an unlikely friendship begins to unfold between the two. Winner of the Best First Feature at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival, Gabriel Ripstein’s 600 Miles is a hyper-real, tense, and gritty foray into the world of guns, cartels, and shootouts.
